Chinese President Xi Jinping is calling for continuing multi-party cooperation and socialist democracy in order to build a moderately prosperous society.
President Xi, who is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, spoke during a discussion with political advisors from the non-communist parties at the first session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. During the discussion, eight representatives from the China Democratic League, the Zhigong Party, the Overseas Chinese Federation and people with no party affiliation shared their views. They discussed deepening reform, properly handling relations with countries that have not established diplomatic ties with China, creating new models for starting up businesses and facilitating the flow of talent. After listening to their report, President Xi said multi-party cooperation led by the CPC and political consultation are fundamental to China's political system. He said China has many challenges to overcome, many actions to be taken, many problems to be studied thoroughly in the process of creating a moderately prosperous society and in the battle against major risks, poverty and environmental pollution. He encouraged representatives to research these issues and actively carry out their role of criticising and supervising the implementation of policies. Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang also joined the discussion.
