We dip into the water now where the Volvo Ocean race continued its journey in leg seven. This stretch of the race goes from Auckland to Itajai in Brazil with Danish team AkzoNobel currently leading the way as they approach Cape Horn.
Spanish outfit Mapfre are currently in second, around one week from reaching Cape Horn. At this moment, the boats are making their way round the southern race course boundary in strong, but manageable, winds ranging from the 20-25 knots. The mild conditions have allowed the crews to travel to up to 500 miles a day with temperatures set to take a turn for the cold as they sail around East Europe. The wind is forecast to increase to as high as 40 knots, which will make manoeuvres more challenging.
