The Chinese Ministry of Commerce says expanding imports to meet growing domestic demand, is one of the country's long-time economic policies.
WANG HUI CGTN REPORTER "I am from CGTN. My question is about last week's China-US trade talks. The China-US joint statement said China will increase US imports of goods and services, including agricultural and energy products which will involve soybeans, beef and shale oil. Is there a commodity list of goods and services imports? And when will this be implemented? Will it be implemented in the first half of this year?"
GAO FENG, SPOKESPERSON CHINESE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE "It is one of China's long-time policies to actively expand imports to meet the growing demand from domestic consumers, as well as to boost high-quality economic development. China welcomes any high-quality and competitive goods and services from countries including the US. We will also supply a fair and transparent business environment for them to compete in the Chinese market."
The ministry also said the biggest achievement of the China-US trade talks is that both sides agreed to properly solve China-US trade disputes through dialogue and cooperation, and avoid a trade war. Meanwhile, it said China has set up a relatively complete legislative and judicial system for regulating intellectual property, and is promoting amendments to a series of intellectual property laws. In terms of the reported US trade investigation into auto imports, the ministry also said China opposes the US abusing its own laws and will keep a close eye on the development of the US 232 probe.
