On Saturday, Xi Jinping was elected president of the People's Republic of China and chairman of the country's Central Military Commission. Leaders from around the world have sent their congratulations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the result of the vote is a recognition of Xi's contributions to China's rapid economic and social development, as well as protecting China's interests.

Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang said he believes Xi will lead the Chinese people to successfully achieve the goal of building China as a prosperous, democratic, civilized, harmonious, beautiful, and modern socialist country, and make contributions to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and world.

Lao President Bounnhang Vorachit said that under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party with Xi as its core, the course of socialism with Chinese characteristics will make comprehensive, remarkable and historic achievements, and the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries will further develop.

Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain said the election manifests Chinese people's confidence in Xi's leadership. The remarkable development achieved in the past five years has upgraded China's international status and image, and greatly changed people's lives.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in wished China to realize its "Chinese Dream" with Xi's administration, and make greater contributions to peace and development of Northeast Asia and the world.

Emperor Akihito of Japan also congratulated Xi's election. And the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called for improved bilateral ties.

Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen said Xi's election reflects the confidence of the majority of Chinese people in Xi's leading efforts to achieve the "Two Centenary Goals" and the Chinese Dream, and under Xi's brilliant leadership, China will make greater achievements in its development and bring more opportunities for various countries to achieve common development.

Bangladesh's President Abdul Hamid said China has made great achievements in building a community with a shared future for mankind under Xi's leadership, and the ties between China and Bangladesh will be further deepened. Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev said the election fully shows that the Chinese people strongly endorse Xi's great contributions to safeguarding national interests. China will produce new achievements under Xi's leadership, and the two nations' comprehensive strategic partnership will continue its high-level development with joint efforts by both sides.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko expressed the wish that the Chinese people enjoy eternal peace and prosperity and that Belarus-China friendly ties achieve ongoing development.

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili said Xi's brilliant leadership will surely bring greater development and benefits to the Chinese nation, and the traditional friendship and cooperation between Georgia and China will be further deepened.

Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Rashid Alimov underscored in his congratulatory letter that China is playing an increasingly important role in the world. He highlighted the Belt and Road Initiative and the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, which were both put forward by Xi, saying that they have won wide acclaim and positive response from the international community. He also expressed confidence that China will host a fruitful SCO summit in the eastern city of Qingdao in June.
