Exclusive interview: Djibouti's president on ties with China

The president of the Republic of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelleh's four-day state visit to China concluded on Saturday. As the first head of state of an African country to visit China since the conclusion of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in October, Guelleh said his country views China as a top-priority and indispensable partner.
The ties between Djibouti and China date back to 1979. The relations have been strengthening since the Sino-African cooperation forum in 2000.

China inaugurated its first overseas military base in Djibouti this year, which became a vital element of the economic project, the Maritime Silk Road.
During this state visit, China and Djibouti agreed to establish strategic partnership to strengthen all-round cooperation. The two countries signed deals on economic, technological and agricultural cooperation after the talks.

In an exclusive interview, Guelleh shared his view with CGTN on the future of Djibouti as well as the relationship with China.
President Guelleh expressed his confidence in the relationship with China. He also indicated that Djibouti would continue cooperation with China on infrastructures, logistics and international security affairs. 
He said  Djibouti shares China's position on international security.
