Beijing preparing horticultural expo of the decade

2019's World Horticultural Exposition (WHE) will be hosted in Beijing. The expo is expected to be one of the largest shows in China this decade.

Infrastructure construction for the expo began on Monday in Beijing's Yanqing district. The organizer of the event is expecting major pavilions to be constructed by the end of the year.

The exposition is recognized by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH), a global organization dedicated to the promotion of horticultural culture.

According to AIPH's standard, the Beijing expo is of A1 level, the highest possible. A1 status requires at least 10 participating countries.

A previous A1 expo was held in southwestern China's Kunming in 1999. Level A2 events have been held many times in Chinese cities in the previous two decades, including Shenyang, Taipei, Xi'an, Qingdao and Tangshan. Another A2 expo has been scheduled in eastern China's Yangzhou in the 2021. A2 events require at least six countries to join in.

On the event's official website, the organizer said attendees can expect the expo to include "poetic beauty in the fascinating landscape", "design from nature's enlightenment", and an "interesting tour where friendship is nourished by flowers," in the planned 960-hectare area.

The exposition will open on April 29, 2019, and last for 162 days.
