Painting the pain away: Syrian refugee in Amman draws for peace
[]
Kawther Abdullatif is a Syrian refugee painter who has been continuously calling for peace with her paintbrushes. But despite the harsh reality of her predicament, her works focus on the beauty of nature and peace.
Abdullatif  lost one son in Syria, and her husband died after the family moved to Jordan in 2013. Now, the painter is raising her remaining six children by herself in Amman.
"When I feel very sad and when I have spare time, I will paint. I feel sad for my son and for our six-story building in Syria which was destroyed," said Abdullatif.
Born to a well-off family in Syria, she learned painting from her father, a decorator and amateur painter. She has created nearly 40 paintings since arriving in Jordan, but managed to sell just a few of them.
