Syria Conflict: UN Security Council unanimously approves 30-day ceasefire
[]
The United Nations Security Council has unanimously approved a resolution demanding a ceasefire in Syria. The resolution aims to allow humanitarian aid deliveries and medical evacuations. The ceasefire does not apply to operations against Islamic State and al-Qaeda's former affiliate in Syria, the Nusra Front. And the resolution does not specify when the truce is supposed to go into force.
Syrian warplanes have continued bombing the rebel enclave in Eastern Ghouta. The area is controlled by several jihadist groups including the Nusra Front. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says more than 500 people were killed in the week leading up to the UN resolution.
