Hot on the heels of the four international fashion weeks in New York, London, Paris and Milan, China's very own fashion event opens in Beijing.
Beijing Fashion Week shines the spotlight on domestic fashion brands and designers.
Fashion meets tradition
Chinese cashmere brand Snow Lotus opens this year's Beijing Fashion Week with the latest Autumn/Winter 2018 collection at the 600-year-old Taimiao Temple.
The new collection includes sweaters, dresses and gowns that highlight couture craftsmanship and innovative techniques. The colors are white, beige, pink and light green, which represent purity, naturalism and authenticity. Menswear is also on display.
Designer Guo Ruiping says this collection was inspired by traveling.
"Travel is an important part of our life today. When you travel to
different places and experience different cultures, the journey of course will
bring you freshness and even surprises. And when you come back home, you'll
feel refreshed by that journey. And this is a collection you can take when you
travel," said Guo.
Snow Lotus has been producing high quality cashmere clothes since 1965, and it's one of China's leading cashmere fashion brands.
In addition, more than 20 local fashion brands will showcase their latest collection at the fashion event.
The Beijing Fashion Week was first held last year and it aims to promote domestic fashion and give local designers a platform on which to shine.
"The Chinese fashion industry has grown a lot in recent years. It's important to establish platforms such as the Beijing Fashion Week to help promote local fashion and designers, to make them known to more people in the world," said Wu Li, president of the organizing committee of Beijing Fashion Week.
The event also features forums that bring together big names in the country's fashion industry.
Beijing Fashion Week runs through September 28.
