China opposes politicizing human rights issues and interfering in other's internal affairs and judicial sovereignty, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng Shuang said on Monday after media reports of Greece's veto over a statement on China's human rights status by the European Union (EU).
In a regular press conference, Geng reiterated China's stance on the human rights issue, saying all parties should conduct constructive dialogue and communications over the issue.
The spokesman also said China is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation with others including the EU on the basis of equality and mutual respect.
When asked if China had communicated with Greece or the EU to block the statement, Geng said he did not know about the internal discussion within the EU. "What I could say here is, we appreciate the European country who took a firm and correct stand," he said.
