Over 1.39 million divorce cases were settled by courts across China, the Supreme People's Court (SPC) told a meeting on the trial of domestic affairs cases on Wednesday.
The divorce cases affected nearly 10 million people, and took up the majority of the 1.75 million domestic affairs cases in the country in 2016, according to the SPC.

Also, a total of 1,284 protective orders have been issued to protect the rights of women, minors and the elderly since March 1, 2016, when the law against domestic violence went into effect.
The numbers showed the effect of a reform launched by the SPC in May 2016, which focused on a trial of modified rules for domestic affairs cases, the SPC said.

Better handling of domestic affairs cases is significant to the stability of society and building a more peaceful country, the SPC noted, while promising to deepen the reform and further protect the rights of the victims of domestic violence.
