Wildlife Preservation: Olive Ridley turtles start mass nesting in India's eastern Odisha state
[]
Turtle lovers gathered at India's Rushikulya beach in the country's eastern Odisha state to witness the annual mass nesting of Olive Ridley turtles. The turtles usually nest from January to April. Every year the local Sea Turtle Protection Committee spends months preparing a clean and safe beach for the animal. Thanks to conservation efforts, the number of female turtles coming to the beach has increased from nearly 35-thousand in 1994, to around 350-thousand in recent years.
