Like with China and its Belt and Road Initiative, India is also spearheading plans aimed at facilitating regional cohesive development. In June 2014, the government introduced Project Mausam to deepen cooperation with countries around the Indian Ocean. It is seen as a move to leverage on the Belt and Road Initiative. And in May 2017, the Asia-Africa Growth Corridor was unveiled. It's supported by India and Japan, focusing on a free and open Indo-Pacific region, which plays a vital role in achieving prosperity.
