Teenagers from across China competed in the RoboCom 2017 national championships in Wuhan, the capital of central Hubei Province.
5,248 youngsters took part in the final, breaking previous records.
Players participated in six subcategories based on different themes.
"The purpose of these sub competitions, including the design of MakeX, is to encourage children to learn while having fun and to improve their comprehensive ability," explained Zhang Yu, the head of MakeX design, a national robotics challenge for Chinese teenagers.
Players are scored according to their robot's design and operational functions, as well as the cultural content of their projects.
Winners in this competition will compete in Beijing against players from around the world from August 23 to 27.
