Padilla said the military death toll had reached the three-digit mark with at least 114 soldiers killed.
Earlier this month, the military scored a major triumph in regaining control of the extension road from Mapandi Bridge.
Downtown Marawi is where much of the battle is being fought now, with government troops surrounding the remaining militants.

Up to 100 hostages are still held in a local mosque by the rebels, Padilla said, with around 40 to 60 militants believed to be with them.
He said Marawi residents have been advised not to return to the city yet as troops clear away ordinance.
