Backgrounder of Land Day
[]
Palestinians commemorate the events of March 30th, 1976 on that particular date every year. So what exactly happened? In response to an Israeli government directive to confiscate thousands of acres of land for settlement purposes, protests were organized in various locations from the Galilee to the Negev desert. Half a dozen Palestinians were killed by authorities, while hundreds more were injured or arrested. Known as "Land Day", Palestinians plant olive trees and hold vigils and marches on this day, to show a collective resistance to Israeli occupation. Clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces are highly regular on this day.
