Most passengers in certain regions are used to swiping travel cards while using public transport, but for many Chinese people who do not own a transport card or live in a city without a smart public transport system, they are required to use cash.
Counting the small denominations of banknotes that are used on the transport systems is a job of Zhang Xuena, a woman working for Money Counting Center of Qingdao Transit Company in east China’s Shandong Province, local media reported on Wednesday.
Zhang has counted a total of 30 million yuan (4.7 million US dollars) worth of cash over the past seven years.

The job is harder than it first looks as the money counting employees must be flawless, count quickly and bundle up the banknotes together. They can only leave work after finishing counting that day's money.
Zhang recently won the company’s money counting competition due to her skill of counting one banknote every two seconds.
“Our job is different from counting cash in a bank. Because we have to count banknotes and coins, and the denominations are varied. Besides, some banknotes are crumpled which adds a lot of difficulties while counting,” Zhu Zhenfu, the manager of the center told Qilu Evening News.

The job was not an easy task at the beginning. Zhang spent two months learning to efficiently count 2,000 yuan worth of small denominations each week, demonstrating the saying “Practice makes perfect.”
The employees not only need to count but spot counterfeits as well, including game currency, damaged notes and counterfeit money. Counterfeit money is the hardest one to identify, but Zhang can distinguish it within two seconds.
