Some 27,000 people in South California were forced to evacuate after wildfire, fanned by strong winds, charred over 31,000 acres.
One person has died in a traffic accident while trying to escape the blaze.
More than 260,000 people in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties are reportedly without power.
Some 500 firefighters are trying to battle the blaze, but due to winds exceeding speeds of 40 mph and gusts over 60 mph, containment prospects are not very bright, Ventura County Fire Chief Mark Lorenzen has said.
