China has always strictly implemented resolutions passed by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said at a regular press conference on Monday, in response to a reporter’s question about a report by UN independent investigators.
The reporter asked Geng’s opinion on the confidential UN report, which indicated that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) earned nearly 200 million US dollars in 2017 by using measures to get around sanctions such as shipping coal to Chinese ports using fake paper work. The report also accused Pyongyang of supplying weapons to Syria and Myanmar.
Geng said he could not comment on the report as it is under review at the United Nations. He did reiterate that China has always taken the lead in implementing resolutions on the DPRK, fulfilling its obligations as permanent member of the UNSC.
