To Cricket now, where having wrapped up a second straight One Day International series win against Australia, South Africa seem to be finding their form ahead of next year's World Cup. The latest 40-run victory in Hobart has sparked belief the Proteas can finally deliver on the biggest stage, following years of under-performing. CGTN's Sias du Plessis has more.
South Africa will take massive confidence out of their performance Down Under. Two clinical displays against the reigning world champions will sit very well with the Proteas leadership ahead of the World Cup next year, and they will be further buoyed by the form of man known as "Devastating Dave", who bludgeoned 139 off just 108 deliveries.
FAF DU PLESSIS SOUTH AFRICA CAPTAIN "With Dave, it is about understanding his blueprint of how to score runs, and he did that now in two games in a row where he absorbed, played cricket shots, and then when he gets through that, he has got 10-to-15 overs at the end, he is up there with best in terms of clearing the ropes."
David Miller and the skipper Du Plessis carved up the Aussie attack with a record 252-run stand for the 4th wicket, combined with his century in the 3rd encounter and 51 in the second game, the master blaster was named Man of the Series for his overall tally of 192 runs.
DAVID MILLER SOUTH AFRICA BATSMAN "I really enjoy those kinds of moments when the team is in trouble or a little bit of a bloops. There you are just trying to get the boys out of where we were, so it is a nice opportunity for me to really just bat and stretch a partnership out, which we did really well."
Du Plessis described the win as one of the best of his ODI career and is thrilled to see the team performing well in all 3 disciplines.
FAF DU PLESSIS SOUTH AFRICA CAPTAIN "It is really good to see us putting it together on a big game, the last game, where we need to obviously win the series, and we had a big challenge for ourselves this morning to put in our best performance today, and I am so pleased we could do it."
SIAS DU PLESSIS JOHANNESBURG "The emphatic victory in Hobart will give the Proteas immense satisfaction and will provide the team's coaching staff and selectors with a better idea of which players can indeed produce the goods under pressure with the World Cup looming large next year. The summer bodes well, and with one T20 to come, the visitors won't be lacking in motivation to end the tour with another victory, Sias du Plessis, CGTN, Johannesburg."
