The trade war will be the subject of a debate between CGTN's host Liu Xin and Trish Regan of the Fox Business Network. Liu will appear on Regan's show at 8 p.m. Wednesday U.S Eastern Time-that'll be eight Thursday morning in Beijing. CGTN reporter Liu Yang has more.
It all began with commentary on the China-US trade frictions by FOX Business Network anchor Trish Regan. The host said the "trade war is on with China, we have the upper hand, it is now or never". Regan accused China of "stealing" American intellectual property at a pace of 600 billion US dollars a year.
Well, we don't think so Trish.
LIU XIN CGTN ANCHOR "Even then, she misidentified this figure, the report actually says the totally low-end value of the annual cost of the IP theft to the U.S. economy may be as high as 600 billion US dollars. Overall. It is not referring to China, but the whole world combined. Dear Trish, perhaps you need a better research team."
Yes, indeed, news based on facts and substance.
Based on our research, the 600 billion US dollar figure from the National Bureau of Asian Research and an American non-profit organization was yet to be verified independently.
In response to the fact-based commentary from Liu Xin, the Fox Business Network anchor grew increasingly angry and agitated.
TRISH REGAN FOX BUSINESS NETWORK ANCHOR "The Chinese are launching the full scale information war against the US and their newest target, me. I am just an American girl, of course, I must be all emotion and no substance."
Netizens from around the world drawing in to this heated discussion. One says "Brain Vs. Brawn, let the world judge." And "it is good to see China's stand-up against some bully, it is a good start China".
LIU YANG CGTN "It is worth noting that Regan's speech was based on questionable information. A new study just in by the IMF says the tariff revenue collected from levies on Chinese goods 'has been borne almost entirely' by U.S. importers. And after more than a year of trade tensions, the bilateral trade deficit between China and the U.S. remains 'broadly unchanged', even with the tariffs. So Trish, the world is waiting for the debate, let's bring in some facts, arm-twisting a country to accept unequal terms ended long, long ago. Liu Yang, CGTN, Beijing."
