The Pakistani Army said at least one soldier and two civilians were killed on Wednesday in the latest Indian cross-border shelling.
In a statement, Pakistan said India resorted to "unprovoked firing" on the Line of Control in the Kashmir region, targeting military posts and civilians. Pakistan retaliated by firing at Indian soldiers, killing five.
Islamabad lodged a formal protest with India against the ceasefire violations. According to a Pakistan military spokesman, Indian forces have committed 580 ceasefire violations so far this year, which he described as the "highest in any year."
