UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomes the reported commitment by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to denuclearization, said a statement by his deputy spokesman on Wednesday.
The UN chief views the latest positive developments as the start of a long process of sincere dialogue, leading to sustainable peace and denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula, said the statement.
The statement came following the recent talks held in Beijing between Chinese President Xi Jinping and DPRK leader Kim Jong Un.
Kim paid an unofficial visit to China from March 25 to 28 at the invitation of President Xi. The trip to Beijing was Kim’s first known foreign visit and his first meeting with a head of a state since becoming DPRK leader in 2011.
