US-backed forces in Syria have entered the most heavily fortified area of the city Raqqa, extremist group ISIL's de facto capital.
The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces managed to breach the wall around the Old City, entering from the south for the first time on Sunday, and crossing the Euphrates River to a new part of the city.
This came as a new round of Syrian peace talks started in the Kazakh capital of Astana on Tuesday. Ahead of the talks, Syrian government forces announced a unilateral ceasefire in the south, which will last until Thursday.
