Chinese Cantonese opera opened Malaysia's Traditional Arts Showcase in Kuala Lumpur on July 28 and 29. The Sound of Tai Hei troupe was one of the highlights of this year's showcase, which will be held over several months and is organized by Malaysia's National Department for Culture and Arts. A traditional art form involving singing, martial arts, acrobatics and acting, Cantonese opera originated from Guangdong and Guangxi in southern China in the 16th century. In 2009, it was included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
