The Uganda National Cultural Centre has organized the first edition of an Annual Arts and Cultural Festival. The two-day festival is about learning about the different tribes and cultural practices in Uganda. Leon Ssenyange reports.
A dance from the East. The kind that leaves a smile on the face. Here, a showcase of Uganda's traditions.
MOSES SERUGOWRITER "This is the stuff that we should be calling our own. Our rhythms are very unique and there are sixty-five or more to speak of."
The Annual Arts and Cultural Festival features a series of activities designed to popularize and promote culturaL exchanges. For Lenka and Hilma; both visiting from Europe, it was the African jewelry which took their fancy.
LENKA HELOVA & HILMA KARKKAINEN "It's really nice to buy things from the people that are making them. I really like the ones from the banana fibre because it's all very natural."
And cultural festivals always mean food. At least for German tourist Moriz; a popular Ugandan snack teased his taste buds.
MORIZ SCHUSTER GERMAN TOURIST "I really enjoyed it. It was like the best Rolex I have ever eaten. They put so much stuff in it, not only onions and tomatoes, but also cabbage. It was really nice."
More than one thousand people turned up. And after hours of music, beautiful art, there was something to leave with in hand and for others memories to savour.
LEON SSENYANGE KAMPALA, UGANDA "The festival here has served up an enriching cultural experience. From the traditional dances, the clothing to the artistic displays, organisers hope that such events will capture more appreciation for Ugandan art and culture. LS CGTN KAMPALA, UGANDA."
