China's stance of resolutely opposing the United States selling weapons to Taiwan has always been clear and consistent. That's according to the Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Wu Qian, speaking at a news conference on Monday.
Wu said Taiwan is a part of China, and the one-China principle is the political foundation of the China-U.S. relationship. His remarks came in response to a question about the U.S. Department of State's approval of the sale of military submarine technology to Taiwan. China urged the U.S. to abide by the one-China principle and the principles of the three China-U.S. Joint Communiques and stop all forms of military contact with Taiwan. This include arms sales. Wu said the Chinese military has the ability, and determination to defeat any attempt to split the nation. He said the military will take all necessary measures to defend national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
