Strong links between the legislatures of China and Laos are an important part of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday.
Xinhua news agency reported that Xi made the remarks when meeting with president of the Lao National Assembly Pany Yathotou in Vientiane during his state visit to the Southeast Asian country.
The two countries' legislatures – China's National People's Congress and the Lao National Assembly – should maintain traditional high-level exchanges and enhance links between their institutional counterparts and regional parliaments, Xi said.
He called on the two sides to learn from each other in governance, development planning and legislation.
He briefed Pany on China's experience in advancing law-based governance in all areas.
Pany said the Lao National Assembly is committed to promoting exchanges and cooperation with China's National People's Congress.
China and Laos on Monday agreed to build a community of a shared future with strategic importance during a meeting between Xi, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and Bounnhang Vorachith, General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President of Laos.
