EU-US Tariff Talks: EU leaders to weigh how to talk trade with Trump as tariffs loom
[]
The leaders of 28 EU nations are gathering in Brussels on Thursday for a two-day summit. Topics on the agenda are Brexit, Russia, and trade. They are expected to consider how to best go about talking trade with the United States. That's after they are briefed on the results of steel tariff talks with US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer. The tariffs talks do show a willingness to seek solutions, rather than a trade war. European Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom expressed cautious optimism on Thursday that U.S. President Donald Trump would exempt the European Union from import tariffs to be imposed on steel and aluminium.
