Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has announced he will dissolve Parliament on Saturday, ahead of the country's general election next month. The Prime Minister met with cabinet ministers this morning. Parliament had its last meeting on Thursday.
Najib's five-year term officially ends on June 24th, but the prime minister can dissolve parliament any time before the end of his term with the king's assent. This would pave the way for a general election. Najib is under pressure to secure a stronger mandate, as he grapples with a multi-billion dollar scandal at a state fund and public anger over rising living costs.
