ASEAN FMs reiterate concerns over tensions on Korean Peninsula

Foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)'s member countries issued a statement on the situation in the Korean Peninsula in Manila, the Philippines on Saturday.
The statement reiterated concerns over the escalation of tensions in the region, including the most recent testing by the DPRK of intercontinental ballistic missiles in July and previous ballistic missile launches and nuclear tests last year.

The statement added that the developments seriously threaten peace, security and stability in the region and the world.
The ministers urge the DPRK, a participant of the ASEAN Regional Forum, to positively contribute to realizing the Forum’s vision to maintain the Asia-Pacific as a region of lasting peace, stability, friendship and prosperity, and to prevent the escalation of potential conflicts.
The latest document was issued on the first day of the 50th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and other related meetings going on in the Philippine capital.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to attend related meetings such as the ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Minister’ Meeting and the ASEAN Regional Forum, together with FMs from S. Korea, US and Russia.
