On the women's side, the first of the four quarter-final matches would feature the world number one from Romania, Simona Halep, taking on unseeded Croatian, Petra Martic. Conditions would not be ideal in Indian Wells, where the gusty winds would cause problems for both players, resulting in long games with plenty of momentum swings.
We pick it up in the opening game with Martic at the top, already in trouble and facing break point on her first serve. Halep is going to step in a blast a deep forehand which the Croatian returns, but can't get near the Romanian's winner. Halep would later claim the frame 6-4.
The second set goes to a tiebreak as Martic looks to win her first set from a top three player. The 27 year old beat French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko in the third round thanks to shots like that, and she would go on to win the breaker 7-5.
But Halep takes control from 3-3 in the decider and on match point, she ends the proceedings with a backhand winner to take the set 6-3, and she is into the semi-finals for her third time.
In the other quarter-final on Wednesday, Japan's Naomi Osaka upset Karolina Pliskova in two sets. Later today, Venus Williams of the US is facing Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro, while Germany's Angelique Kerber goes up against 20 year old Russian Daria Kasatkina.
