Aeroflot deputy CEO: C929 a game-changer in global aircraft market

China and Russia’s joint development of a wide-body passenger jet may shift the balance in the Chinese aircraft market, said Giorgio Callegari, deputy CEO of Russian flag-carrier Aeroflot.
Speaking to journalists during the 52nd International Paris Air Show on Tuesday, Callegari said the project to develop the C929 wide-body jet will combine expertise from Russia with the efficiency of Chinese manufacturers. He said the C929’s impact will be felt in the long term, given the complexity of aircraft production.
Callegari said the C929 could make a dent in the aircraft market if deliveries are made in a punctual manner, features are competitive, and service and support are available.
In May this year, the state-owned Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) announced a joint venture with Russia's United Aircraft Corp (UAC) to build 280-seat jets with a range of 12,000 kilometers. It is the latest attempt to break into the lucrative market long dominated by aircraft giants, Boeing and Airbus.
The Paris Air Show kicked off on Monday and will end on June 25.
