Looking China series: Li Brocade, a tradition that never fades

Looking China is a short film series made by a group of young film directors from over 20 countries. They traveled to various places across China, making films and exploring Chinese culture with the help of students from local universities.

Living in a world where traditions are disappearing and knowledge is lost, a group of Li people, the ethnic minority group that mostly lives on Hainan Island, have never changed the lifeline of their culture and ancestors.
Fifty-year-old Fu Baiyin spends most of her leisure time creating a unique traditional handicraft - Li Brocade - along with the other Li women and girls, to keep the tradition alive.

Their lives are actually like a Li Brocade. The clothes they make mirror their lifestyles, morals and customs, beliefs and taboos. This is the charm of the Li Brocade. 
Looking China is a short film series offering a glimpse of China through the lens of 20 foreign filmmakers. We will be sharing their stories in the coming days and weeks.
