The South Korean President Moon Jae-in chose the southwestern city of Chongqing as his second destination of his four-day state visit to China, after spending the first two days in Beijing.
On Saturday morning, Moon visited the former office of Korean Provisional Government and presented flowers to the statue of his predecessor and independence leader, Kim Koo.
He also had a short meeting with the decedents of the Korean independence movement activists.
During World War II, Chongqing housed the headquarters of the last Korean provisional government that organized the independence movement against Japanese colonial rule.
Before leaving the site, Moon wrote "the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea is our root, our spiritual source."
