China expects smooth DPRK-ROK summit, DPRK-US dialogue

China encourages and supports the political will of the US and the DPRK to hold direct dialogues, and expects a smooth DPRK-ROK summit and DPRK-US dialogue, said Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on Tuesday.
Lu Kang, a MOFA spokesperson, made the remarks at a regular press conference while answering a question about the visit of Chung Eui-yong, top national security advisor for the ROK’s President Moon Jae-in, to China.

Briefing the media, Lu also reiterated China’s stance on the issue, saying the country always upholds the goal of denuclearizing the peninsula as well as the peaceful settlement of the DPRK nuclear issue.
China encourages and supports the opportunities for restarting dialogues on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, said Lu.
The ROK thanks to China's adherence to the goal of denuclearization, its adherence to solving the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue peacefully, as well as its support for dialogue between the ROK and the DPRK and direct dialogue between the DPRK and the United States.
The ROK expects China to continue playing an important role, according to Chung.
The envoy visited China on Monday and met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
