At least 310 people have been killed and more than 15-hundred wounded in Syria's eastern Ghouta district, since pro-government forces began to shell the rebel-held area Sunday night. This is according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor group. The group said at least 38 were killed on Wednesday alone, and residents there said they were waiting their "turn to die". Rebels blamed the government for the heavy civilian casualties, while the government accused rebels of using civilians as human shields. The United Nations Security Council has called for an emergency meeting Thursday to discuss the issue.
