We head over to Doha now where China claimed second in the men's qualification at the 2018 World Artistic Gymnastics Championship. Their result of 257.836 points isn't enough to beat Russia in first but is enough to give them real hope of doing well in the final. CGTN's Zhu Xuesong reports.
China began confidently on the 10th and final rotation on Friday evening. The Chinese gymnasts took charge in their first three rotations on the Vault, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar, knocking out Russia's event total that they had held since the first subdivision on Thursday.
The team's best performance was on the Parallel Bars, where they amassed 46.066 points. Zou Jingyuan, the defending world champion in the event, posted a spectacular 15.800, the highest score at these world championships. The team's momentum was halted on the Pommel Horse, where many struggled during qualification. After falls from the first three gymnasts, Xiao Ruoteng salvaged the team's total with 14.633, the second-best score. The 22-year-old qualified in first to the All-around final with 87.332.
XIAO RUOTENG CHINESE GYMNAST "Today I topped the Men's All-around qualification, which is beyond my expectations. Going into the final in first place definitely puts some pressure on me but I'll try to adjust myself in order to showcase my best performance."
Xiao also qualified in another 2 event finals which were the Pommel Horse and Horizontal Bar while Zou Jingyuan qualified for Parallel Bars final.
ZHU XUESONG DOHA "A collection of highly accomplished Pommel Horse practitioners in the Russian, Chinese and Japanese Teams failed to master the apparatus in the men's qualification, which leaves a striking suspense for the result of the Men's Team Final on Monday. Zhu Xuesong, CGTN, Doha."
