Greece and China officially signed a Memorandum on the China-Greece Cultural Exchange and Cultural Industry Cooperation Year in Athens at the Dunhuang Forum in China's Gansu Province last Tuesday.
CGTN sat down with the visiting Greek Culture Minister Lydia Koniordou in Beijing and talked about bilateral relations and cultural exchanges in particular.
Minister Lydia Koniordou said the two civilizations – China and Greece – have brought amazing gifts to humanity. She added that “this moment these two cultures meet is of great importance, because by looking at one another, and exchanging our gifts with one another we enrich ourselves and the world.
An acclaimed actress and director specializing in ancient Greek drama, Koniordou first visited Beijing in 2004 with the National Theater of Greece to perform the Sophocles play "Antigone."
She said she will never forget the standing ovation the audience gave to the Greek artists. In 2014 and 2015 she was invited by Shanghai Theater Academy to do a workshop on ancient Greek drama and then direct a performance of ancient Greek drama by third-year students.
