Wang Yi Visits Pakistan: China, Pakistan agree to enhance exchanges between legislative organs

China and Pakistan on Saturday agreed to enhance exchanges between the two sides' legislative organs and push forward the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. This comes as Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi wraps up his three-day visit to Pakistan. Our correspondent Danial Khan has more.
Pakistan and China have agreed to form a joint mechanism for curbing terrorism and poverty, increasing exports, creating jobs and promoting education.
Following a one on one meeting, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said, being iron brothers both China and Pakistan are supporting each other on various levels and share common principles on different issues.
SHAH MEHMOOD QURESHI PAKISTANI FOREIGN MINISTER "I have discussed with the state counselor the priorities of our government including poverty elevation, socio-economic development, job creation and rooting out corruption, which will be incorporated in our future joint endeavors."
Pakistan has reassured China that CPEC will remain a priority for the newly elected government.
DANIAL KHAN ISLAMABAD "This is the first visit by a senior Chinese official since the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-led government took charge. Observers say China wants to engage with the new government, re-emphasize the importance of bilateral ties and learn about its position on relations particularly with regard to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor."
Wang Yi was accompanied by three ministerial level representatives.
WANG YI CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTER "I am coming to Pakistan to make full contact with the new government and compare all notes on bilateral cooperation. The trust is to ensure a good beginning for bilateral relations on the new starting point. We applaud the new government at this time for underscoring its commitment to keep the relations between China and Pakistan a cornerstone of its foreign policy. Let me reiterate here that China will continue to prioritize Pakistan in China's foreign policy and neighborhood diplomacy."
Beijing has pledged $57 billion in loans for Pakistan as part of its Belt and Road Initiative. Talking about the Chinese initiative, he said that it has helped increase the economic growth by 1 to 2 percent and has contributed 70,000 jobs in Pakistan.
The Chinese Foreign Minister, also said that Beijing will support Pakistan in developing its industrial sector as well as increasing exports to China.
Prime Minister Imran Khan also met Foreign Minister Wang Yi and discussed matters of mutual relation and corporation in diversified fields.
The visiting delegation also met Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and discussed matters relating to regional security and bilateral cooperation, Wang Yi said the world should acknowledge Pakistan's efforts towards regional peace and reconciliation. Danial Khan, CGTN, Islamabad.
