Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent congratulations on the 10th anniversary of the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization. He called for more cooperation in space and exploration. As CGTN's Ning Hong reports, APSCO is utilizing new space infrastructure among its members and other countries across the world.
On the brink of a new space age, the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization is ready for takeoff. Celebrating 10 strong years, APSCO has set up a platform for multiple countries to share remote sensing data.
DR. LI XINJUN SECRETARY GENERAL, APSCO "We have provided over 28 hundred satellite remote sensing images to Peru, so that the International Meteorological Organization can better study El Niño."
So far APSCO has issued 35 authorized licenses. Over 8,000 satellite images have been provided to APSCO member states for a wide range of applications including disaster monitoring, disaster management and environment assessment.
APSCO scholars exchange their research at seminars and sponsor students to pursue scholarships in space research.
NING HONG BEIJING "The main purpose of APSCO is to provide a cooperative mechanism and support for countries in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly the developing countries, to be able to mainstream peaceful uses of space as a driver for socio-economic development."
One of the major projects involves capacity building.
