A large delegation of Palestinian Hamas is in Cairo to deliver their response on Egypt's cease fire proposal with Israel. Cairo is trying to reduce tensions between Palestine and Israel, and also between Hamas and Fatah. But as Adel El Mahrouky reports, success is still a long way off.
A huge delegation from the Palestinian group Hamas is in Cairo for talks with the Egyptian Intelligence bureau and other officials. 35 representatives from the group have arrived on Saturday and will stay in the Egyptian Capital for three days.
The delegation is repaying the Egyptian intelligence visit to Gaza. They are here to deliver their response on Egypt's cease fire proposal with Israel.
Cairo wants to reach temporary calm at the GAZA Israel fence border until progress is made in the Palestinian reconciliation agreement between Fatah and Hamas. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has insisted that any permanent agreement with Gaza must be through the Palestinian Authority.
Peace among the Palestinian and with Israel has been among Egyptian President Abdel Fattah EL Sisi's top priorities. In New York, during the UN General Assembly, the Egyptian President held talks with Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Egyptian authorities aim to reach a long-term ceasefire in Gaza and a lasting reconciliation among Palestinian factions, which are the cornerstones for peace talks resumption with Israel.
ADEL EL MAHROUKY SHARM EL SHEIKH "Yet criticism continues to flow between Fatah and Hamas, which is making Egypt's mission much harder. Cairo is not giving up though, it hopes that the Palestinian and Israeli Leaders can once again sit together in direct talks. Adel EL Mahrouky CGTN from the Egyptian city of Peace, Sharm EL Sheikh."
