Washington's top envoy sent out early wishes two days before the Chinese New Year, hoping to see "even greater success and opportunity of all" during the Year of the Dog.
The Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival and Lunar New Year, is the most important festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. There is a zodiac, or animal representation, attributed to each year in a 12-year cycle. Starting from Feb. 16, this year is the Year of the Dog, which symbolizes "wealth."
