South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Monday asked the International Olympic Committee to step in and invite the DPRK to participate in next year's Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang .
In a meeting in Seoul with IOC chief Thomas Bach, Moon said he hopes that the games in South Korea could "heal the Koreans' hurt".
Moon earlier made the proposal for both South Korea and the DPRK to form a joint team for the Winter Games.
The idea was vetoed by Pyongyang, saying political tensions should be resolved first.
