China has called on both Israel and Palestine to exercise restraint after violent clashes continued along the Gaza-Israel border area. The relocation of the United States Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, has brought tens of thousands of Palestinians to protest near the border. Over fifty Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire, and more than 2,000 were injured in violent clashes with Israeli forces. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang says China is seriously concerned about the confrontations, and is ready to work with the international community to come up with a proper solution to the Palestine issue.
LU KANG, SPOKESPERSON CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTRY "China expressed its grave concern about the clashes and deaths along the Israel-Gaza border. We call on both sides, especially Israel, to maintain restraint and avoid further tension and escalation of the situation. China has always believed the final status of Jerusalem should be finally settled through peace talks between Palestine and Israel in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations. China has always supported a two-state solution, with the establishment of an independent Palestinian state through negotiation and based on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. China is willing to make contributions to the final resolutions with international communities."
