The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Thursday that its President Thomas Bach is paying a visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) with a seven-member delegation.
"This visit follows an invitation from the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of the DPRK which was extended on Jan. 20 in Lausanne," the IOC said.
Bach arrived in Pyongyang on Thursday and will leave on Saturday, the IOC said.
IOC and DPRK officials met in Switzerland in January to discuss details of DPRK's participation in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics staged last month in the Republic of Korea (ROK).
The two countries agreed to form a joint women's hockey team, and marched at the Olympics opening ceremony under the same blue-and-white Korean Peninsula flag.
Speaking at the event, Bach hailed the move and said Seoul and Pyongyang have sent a “powerful message of peace” to the world.
