China Driverless Cars: Beijing issues temporary plate for self-driving vehicles
[]
For the first time, Beijing traffic authorities have issued temporary license plates to self-driving cars for public road testing. Thirty-three roads in the city with a total length of 105 kilometers have been assigned for the testing. China has not been deterred by the pedestrian death in a Uber self-driving car accident in the US. Beijing traffic authorities say the driverless cars have to undergo strict testing and evaluations in a closed environment before they are allowed to go on public roads. Beijing has built a 13.3-hectare closed testing ground in Haidian District. It provides different driving environments for testing self-driving cars.
