An art exhibition dubbed “Troposphere” is being held in Beijing, displaying art pieces of dozens of well-known contemporary artists from China and Brazil. The exhibition is a major cultural event that answers the call of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Michel Temer earlier this year, to expand cooperation in cultural and tourism areas.
Artworks by 21 Brazilian contemporary artists are greeting Beijing visitors, bringing insights into the society, culture and people of Brazil. Tunga’s installation piece, “Me, you and the moon,” is considered one of the highlights of the exhibition. One of Brazil's most highly regarded artists, Tunga had held exhibitions in various world major museums, including the Louvre. He passed away last year.
The exhibition also features the work of 21 Chinese artists, demonstrating an intuitive connection in a variety of aspects, like the use of materials, styles and conceptual approaches. Connection is the message the exhibition is aiming for.
The piece, “1 and N,” was created by Chinese artist Shang Yixin. He uses wood strips to illustrate movement. And across the globe in Brazil, the now 93-year-old Brazilian artist Abraham Palatnik also got similar inspiration from wood strips…
Many Chinese artists are crazy about using textiles and threads as their raw materials. At the exhibition, the visitors could find that Leda Catunda, one of the most important female artists in Brazil, is also keen on working with fabrics.
The exhibition is part of the Beijing Minsheng Art Museum's BRICS art project, and runs through March, 2018.
