A man was sentenced to two years and 10 months behind bars for his involvement in the Mong Kok riots in February 2016, according to the Hong Kong District Court on Wednesday.
Tan Ho-yin, 25, was accused of hurling a brick at police for fun and shaking a signpost during the unrest, reported local media.
The incident was captured on a police camera and he was arrested on November 10, 2016.
The man pleaded guilty last December to one count of rioting, which is punishable by 10 years' imprisonment.
Violence erupted in Mong Kok, one of the busiest shopping areas in Hong Kong, during the Chinese Spring Festival following a crackdown on illegal street vendors on the night of February 8. Chaotic scenes ensued with rioters attacking law enforcers, throwing objects at them and starting fires.
Police have arrested more than 60 suspects in the aftermath.
