Japan Land Deal Scandal: Finance Ministry admits doctoring documents linked to PM's wife

Japan's Finance Ministry has acknowledged that it falsified documents in a scandal linked to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's wife.
The documents dealt with the 2016 sale of state land to a school operator at one-seventh of its appraised value. Finance Minister Taro Aso said an investigation has found 14 instances of alterations.They include the removal of Akie Abe's name after the scandal surfaced. Shinzo Abe has denied any wrongdoing, but opposition lawmakers allege that political pressure was applied in the deal. A top finance bureaucrat resigned on Friday, and another official reportedly killed himself.
